Förnimmelser
A sense (in Swedish ”förnimmelse”) is a biological system used by an organism for sensation, the process of gathering information about the world through the detection of stimuli. To this sense the brain can observe color, forms, heat, coldness, taste, movement, smells and sounds. But also in the unconscious we can experience things and perceive, like in a dream. While visiting an ancient monastery in Sweden I got a feeling or sensation that something beautiful and sad had happened there. I got inspired by these sensations and made music.
In this album we will take a journey through these senses, from the world we live in, to the dream, the unconscious and things beyond words, sometimes a bit like music. It's an abstract experience…
”Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darkness of other people”
”Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes” (C.G Jung).

Henrik Meierkord
Henrik Meierkord is a Swedish musician based in Stockholm, experimenting with different genres. With the cello as his main instrument, he also masters viola, double bass, guitar and numerous other instruments. As a composer, Henrik creates vivid, full-bodied pieces that draw as much from ambient music's meditative qualities as they do from humanity's rich history of classical styles. As a cellist, he injects emotion that is both relatable and intimate, across a diverse range of musical collaborations. With a work rate that is nothing short of astounding, Henrik continues to explore every possible expression of human feeling, from the heart-wrenching to the transcendental. And yet, a lightness and curiosity run throughout his process, with the sole aim to bring true benefit to the listener. His keywords in making music are pause, vacuum of time, the unconscious, consciousness, dream, meditation, a way of avoiding direct thoughts and reality. He combines Neoclassical approach with his string instruments and effects and sometimes together with synthesizers.
Reviews
Luminous DashThe pace of the releases that Swedish multi-instrumentalist Henrik Meierkord releases is almost impossible to keep up with. We can safely count him in the category of sound-biters such as the Dutch Machinefabriek , our compatriot Dirk Serries and the Canadian Aidan Baker ( Nadja ). However, by unleashing everything on enthusiasts all the time, there is soon a risk of waning interest in the end products. Förnimmelser (Swedish for sense) became a fascinating test to maintain our interest in his creations.
Meierkord is a seeker and an observer with a keen nose for picking up emotional echoes from nature, old buildings and people. He converts these disembodied stimuli into musical resonances in which the cello usually plays the leading role. Förnimmelser is a distillate steeped in sadness from a visit to an old Swedish monastery. The beauty and melancholy of this place has become a rich source of inspiration for this deep listening trip.
With his cello playing, the Swede causes a diverse explosion of feelings in which both soothing sounds and undulating fields of tension are sent through hazy ambient mists. The use of electronic effects is limited, but they color the compositions shrouded in darkness even more. Meierkord's sounds cut into sensitive sensory perceptions and stimulate the dark twilights in our conscious and unconscious existence.
With Förnimmelser , Meierkord succeeds in detecting and transmitting emotional reverberations and releasing them in the form of beautiful soundscapes.
